Americana Highways: Song Premiere: Steve Drizos “Juggling Fire”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Steve Drizos’ song “Juggling Fire” from his forthcoming album Axiom, due to be available on January 22nd via Cavity Search records. Recorded at Drizos’ studio The Panter in Portland, OR, the other musicians on the song are Jenny Conlee (The Decemberists) on keys and Kyleen King on vocals and strings.

In an achingly poignant saga of struggling for sobriety, Steve Drizos speaks here in his own gentle songwriting voice. This album is a fitting counterpart to the role he plays as the drummer in Jerry Joseph’s band the Jackmormons.  The human heart can express profundities equally well in either restrained or impassioned ways.  Drizos provides the light of confidential expression to the fervent darkness that generally characterizes the Jackmormons. Listen to Axiom for some truly introspective soul searching.

The houseless situation in my hometown of Portland is impossible to ignore and not be affected by it. My neighborhood has its fair share of familiar faces strolling through the streets, collecting what they can to survive. Two women in particular were inspiration for “Juggling Fire.” And and the thought that a good number of us are a just a few circumstances away from be in that same position. — Steve Drizos
